Congress Park Session With Bridget | Saratoga NY Children’s Photographer

I’ve been having a lot of sessions in downtown Saratoga’s Congress Park lately, and I recently had the privilege of photographing  Bridget and her delightful family there.  Bridget is just entering toddlerhood and is really enjoying the simple life:  walking around (she hasn’t gotten too quick yet, easier for me!), watching the ducks, and picking the little flowers in the grass.  There are so many fabulous areas in the park, we really couldn’t go wrong!  She especially loved splashing in the many fountains.  Here are a few of what we got.

Devon - Emma Willard Class of 2009

I spent an enjoyable couple of hours last week with Devon, on the campus of the beautiful Emma Willard School in Troy, NY.   Devon is involved in so many activities in school that she did not have time for her senior pictures until the day after her graduation!  She showed me around all the beautiful buildings and we had a fabulous time capturing her senior pictures.  We went to study halls (I think I would fall asleep in those red chairs instead of getting any studying in…), the theater where Devon sings, and, I got to step into the forbidden Senior Triangle.

Here are just a few images.  I don’t think Devon could take a bad picture even if she tried.  Plus she was a sweetheart.  Best wishes next year at the University of Maryland!

I love this snap, taken while I was getting lighting adjusted for this dark corner:  She looks impatient, but she wasn’t at all.  Just fashionable:

Ella (and her big brother…) | Saratoga NY Baby Photographer

A couple of weeks ago I got to hang out with Ella and Noah in their yard.  The intention was to get pictures of Ella, but I couldn’t resist Noah.  He was so much fun, and proudly showed off all his cool swingset maneuvers.  Ella was a sweetheart ~ a very tired sweetheart ~ who was a bit perplexed by the camera.  It was obvious her big brother was very fond of her, even if he was perfectly happy to ignore her for most of our session.  I think we got some great shots despite the challenges!  Here are just a few.

One of Ella and her daddy, sort of…

Hannah - 13 months | Saratoga NY Family Photographer

I had the privelege of spending Saturday evening with a great family at Congress Park in Saratoga.  We managed to get quite a few shots of sweet little Hannah and her family, despite an escape attempt during a wardrobe change and the fact that the park was teeming with wedding parties and Prom-goers.  We had lots of fun - I even got to ride along on Hannah’s first carosel ride.  Hannah seemed to enjoy it and I was happy to not be sick after taking pictures on a moving carosel.  Hannah’s grandmother is a florist so her mom had a little bouquet made up for our session too.

We got tons of images - here are just a few I pulled out while proofing them!

A Different Perspective on Mother’s Day

It is almost Mother’s Day.  As a mom, I so enjoy the adorable handmade cards and the thoughtful presents my children give me each May.  But for some moms, Mother’s Day goes unrecognized.  There are no cards, presents, or hugs.  Often, there is not even acknowledgment.  Although we do not hear about it very often, and never anticipate its occurrence, babies still die, every day.

I do not talk about my work with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep very often, although I probably should.  So now I am.  The following is taken right from the NILMDTS website:

“Pregnancy and birth are miraculous journeys. This amazing time of life is full of mystery, anticipation, joy, hope, and wonder. Feeling the powerful energy of birth and new life, watching as a new family is born unto each other. These things humble and amaze. These are the things that we celebrate when a baby is born.

But there is another aspect of pregnancy and birth. There is an unexpected place in this journey where some families may find themselves. When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. There is confusion, sadness, fear, and uncertainty that cannot be explained. There is sorrow where there should have been joy. During this time, it might be impossible for families to know what they might need in order to heal in the future.

This is the place where the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation gently provides a helping hand and a healing heart. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization. The soft, gentle heirloom photographs of these beautiful babies are an important part of the healing process. They allow families to honor and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives.

The Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation (NILMDTS) administers a network of almost 7,000 volunteer photographers in the United States and twenty-five countries. At a family’s request, a NILMDTS Affiliated Photographer will come to your hospital or hospice location and conduct a sensitive and private portrait session. The portraits are then professionally retouched and presented to the families on an archival DVD or CD that can be used to print portraits of their cherished baby.

Our entire network of affiliated photographers graciously donate their time and talents to our families and we are proud to be able to offer our services at no cost. Your Donations are greatly needed and greatly appreciated.”

Please consider supporting the mission of NILMDTS this Mother’s Day.  To learn more about this wonderful organization, or to volunteer your talents if you are a photographer, visit their website at www.nilmdts.org.

Marin Turns 1! | Saratoga NY Children’s Photography

I’ve been photographing Marin since she was 2 months old, and I was honored to be asked to photograph her first birthday party.  The party was a lot of fun, with about 30 of Marin’s closest friends (OK, so some of them were her parents’ friends…) there, plus lots of great food and fun decorations.  Her cake was from J.S. Watsons in Clifton Park and was beautiful, done in the party theme of pink and brown polka dots.  There was even a “smash cake” just for Marin!   Marin’s dad is an amateur musician (I got a tour of the brand new state-of-the-art recording studio going into the basement) and played the best version of Happy Birthday on the piano I have ever heard.  What a great time.

Fun M&M’s!

Maia - 8 Weeks | Albany NY Infant Photographer

Meet Maia.  She is utterly adorable, and super-snuggly - I didn’t even want to put her down to do her session.  (No, really.)  She was so much fun too - laughing and smiling during the first half of the session, then out like a light for the second half.   Perfect - we were able to capture her cuteness both awake and asleep.  With 2 big brothers she is going to need all the cuteness she can get.

Congratulations.  Your world just got a little more pink.

Baby Maria | Saratoga NY Baby Photographer

Remember Anthony from a couple of months ago?  I had the privelege of photographing his brand new baby sister, Maria, who is absolutely adorable.  She spent most of yesterday’s session sleeping.  She slept with her hat on, with her hat off, with her sleeper on, with it off, on her back, on her side….  She has incredible blue eyes but you’ll just have to believe me.  Anthony adores his new sister and LOVES to hold her, just not when there is a camera around.  But he helped me test out my lighting and that’s when I got this shot of him that I love.   Best wishes to this wonderful family!

Andrew - Class of 2009 | Albany NY Senior Photographer

I recently had the privilege of shooting Andrew’s senior pictures.  Andrew has been on the crew team for the last 6 years, collects comic books and Transformers (he even brought one to our session), likes to blog, and is currently working on a novel. He is also active with drama club, makes short films, and does voice acting. Quite a resume for a high school student.

Here’s a preview from our session.  Enjoy your senior year Andrew!

She’s Getting Even Cuter! | Saratoga NY Infant Photographer

I had the opportunity to photograph Marin about 6 months ago, and recently did some updated pictures during a session in Congress Park.  She was absolutely adorable in her holiday sweater and dress, and has gotten very smiley.  Plus she makes the cutest scrunchy faces, totally out of the blue - almost like a sneeze, but you don’t have to clean her up afterwords.   We had lots of fun.  Here’s a little sneak preview.blog14.jpg
